bio

A Chicago area native, I started my theater and acting career at Stanford University and then moved back to Chicago. I worked as an intern at the Goodman Theatre as assistant to Tony Mockus for A Christmas Carol and as an intern and Equity Stage Manager at the Organic Theater under Stuart Gordon.

Soon after, I founded Beacon St. Playhouse with William J. Norris, where we ran for about two years producing classical theater and some new work as well. It was up in Uptown at the now defunct Jane Adams Hull House. Apparently the new landlord is going to take out the theater space. It was perfect! Very sad to see it go.

I then took a slight detour for family and other opportunities, but kept active in theater as an avocation at our local theater CenterStage in Lake Forest. At CenterStage, I directed over 30 shows and performed onstage as well.

After 15 years in the insurance field, I decided to pursue acting, voiceover and commercial work full time. I have trained at The Artistic Home with their Tech classes for the Meisner Technique under Kathy Scambiatterra and taken The Artistic Home's Advanced Scene Study Class.

I have taken On-Camera Classes at Acting Studio Chicago with Rachael Patterson, Chris Agos and Doug McDade, as well as monologue work with Kurt Naebig. I also am a beginner Ear Prompter student and getting the hang of it..  I take vocal lessons with Colette Todd.  All on the resume.

I am currently being coached for voiceovers with Marc Cashman out of Los Angeles. I also have an in-home studio for recording. I have worked on numerous student films. Copies of the projects will be posted when they become available www.dougschuetzactor.com.

I am represented in the Chicago area.  But look to get into more film and possibly move to Los Angeles in the next five years.

Thanks for viewing my pages, and I promise to chronicle my steps through this challenging world of acting and performance.
